About our company
At Wine Dark Sea Research, we are dedicated to the preservation of maritime heritage and the advancement of environmental research. We are in the process of restoring a 150-year-old fishing smack, a historic vessel that once sailed the seas and served as a cornerstone of local maritime history. Our mission is to breathe new life into this remarkable ship, bringing it back to the very port where it was originally built, more than a century and a half ago. This restoration is not only an effort to honour the ship's legacy but also a commitment to preserving the craftsmanship and cultural significance of traditional wooden sailing vessels.
Once restored, the ship will be converted into an eco-friendly research vessel, equipped with sustainable technologies to minimise its environmental footprint while maximising its research capabilities.
